Tekort Privacy Policy

Last updated 3 October 2026

Tekort works out how many calories you can eat in a day and helps you decide what to eat. To do that it has to hold some information about you. This page says exactly what, where it is kept, who else can see it, and how to get rid of it.

Tekort carries no advertising, no analytics and nothing that follows you into other apps. Your information is never sold and never shared for anybody else's marketing.

What Tekort holds about you

Apple Health

If you allow it, Tekort reads one thing: the calories you burn moving, which Apple Health calls active energy. It does not read your workouts, and it never reads your resting burn, which it works out from your own body instead.

Only the day's total is saved to your Tekort account, so a past day still adds up once Health has moved on. Tekort never writes anything back into Apple Health.

What other people can see

Tekort's food database is built by the people using it. When you add a product (its name, its nutrition figures and the photograph of its packet), that product becomes visible to everyone else using Tekort. That is the point of it: the next person who scans that barcode gets your work instead of typing it out again.

By adding a product you let Tekort show its photographs to everybody who uses Tekort, for as long as the product is in Tekort.

Your own account is not shown alongside it. Nobody else sees your email address, your body, what you ate, or what you weigh. Those are yours alone.

Reading a label

When you photograph a packet, the three photographs, of the front, the back and the label, are sent to Google, who read the nutrition label from them and send the figures back. Google receives the pictures of the packet and nothing else: not your name, not your email address, not your account number, and nothing about your body or what you have eaten.

Tekort uses Google's Gemini API on its free tier. On that tier Google may keep those photographs, have its own people read them, and use them to improve Google's artificial intelligence. That is Google's arrangement and not Tekort's, and it is why the app asks for your yes before the first photograph goes, and asks you to keep people and anything private out of the frame. Photograph the packet and nothing else.

Supabase, Apple and Google are the only companies that handle anything from Tekort. Supabase holds what Tekort keeps, and is required to protect it at least as well as this page promises. Apple or Google signs you in, whichever you choose; if you choose Google, Google's own sign-in notes roughly where you are from your internet address, to stop fraud. Apple also handles paying, below. Reading a label is the exception described just above: for that, Google is handed nothing but pictures of a packet.

Where it is kept

Everything is stored with Supabase, on servers in Ireland (region eu-west-1). Every request is checked against the account making it, at the database itself, so one account cannot read another's rows even if the app were tampered with.

Paying

Subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple. Tekort never sees your card, your billing address or your Apple Account. All the app is ever told is whether a subscription is currently running. Manage or cancel it in your iPhone's Settings, under your name, then Subscriptions.

Getting rid of it

Open Tekort, go to the Settings tab, and choose Delete account. Everything goes: your body, your days, your entries, your plans, your weight history, and your account number wherever it appears, including inside the record of edits to products, and on any block you made. If you signed in with Apple, Tekort also tells Apple to remove its sign-in, and throws away the token it kept for that.

Products you added to the shared food database stay, with nothing left connecting them to you. Other people are relying on them.

One thing does remain, and it is worth saying plainly: the photographs you took are filed in folders named after your account number, and those folder names stay as they are. Once your account is deleted that number belongs to nobody and cannot be looked up, but the photographs of those packets do stay grouped together. Nothing in them is about you.

Children

Tekort is not built for children and is not aimed at anyone under 13. If you believe a child has made an account, write to the address below and it will be removed.

Changes to this page

If what Tekort does with your information changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top moves. Anything that meaningfully widens what is collected will be said inside the app before it happens.
