Cancelling a monthly plan

Plans are handled by Apple, not by Verse. In Verse, open Settings and tap Manage subscription. Or on your iPhone open Settings, tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions, then Verse. Cancel at least a day before the free week ends and nothing is charged; cancel later and you keep Verse to the end of the month you have paid for.

Buying Lifetime while paying monthly

Buying Lifetime does not end your monthly plan. It keeps renewing until you cancel it, as above.

Restoring on a new phone

Tap Restore purchases under the button on the pay screen, or in Verse's Settings. It asks Apple what your Apple Account has bought.

A widget says "Open Verse to keep your daily verse" or "Open Verse to see your bookmarks here."

The widgets cannot ask Apple themselves. Open Verse once and it checks with Apple; the widgets follow.
